We met Coach Watts on a trip to the United States in 2019 from Australia when Angus was playing some AJGA events. During the time, Coach Watts gave us some insights into the college recruitment process and also gave Angus some guidance on his game. Even to the extent that he organized some lessons with Dodie Mazzuca to focus on his putting. Over the the next 12 months we embarked on the recruitment journey and along the way Coach Watts provided us with his knowledge and experience in what is a challenging process for both the student and the parents. It is an extremely time-consuming process and at times stressful for all. Coach Watts has many contacts within the college system and identifies which colleges are a good fit for the student. He is very approachable and a great support.

Angus has just started his college career at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. We as a family have no hesitation in recommending Coach Watts to help guide and support you through the recruitment process.

When Dean decided to commit and play Division I golf for Coach Brian Watts at the United States Military Academy at West Point, as it turns out, it was the best decision Dean has ever made. Under Coach Watts’ guidance, Dean had grown mentally, physically and had taken the game to the next level under his leadership. He was a friend, coach, mentor, leader and even a father when he needed to be. The insight and compassion along with his deep-rooted experience in life and in golf, comes through every time when needed. Fortunately for the junior golf players of the world, Coach Watts has moved on to consulting for the aspiring junior golfer looking for a leg up through the process. Through his advice and. never ending connections with pillars of the game, your sons and daughters will have an advantage that most strive for. Thank you coach and wishing you the very best in your next chapter of life. God Speed!

Coach Watts took a chance on me years ago and I am still reaping the benefits from his mentorship and friendship years after college golf concluded. He is not only a golf coach, but a family-focused man who puts integrity above all else to create better men and women on and off the golf course. It is difficult to find people in today’s society who value and develop others’ character as much as Coach Watts. When I arrived at West Point, Coach Watts prioritized team culture and work ethic more than anyone I had ever witnessed, which made me who I am today. There is no one else in the United States that will be a better resource to navigate your son or daughter’s dreams to play college golf. I feel honored to know Coach Watts and give anyone who asks my highest recommendations.

Fifteen years after my last competitive round for the Oregon State Men’s Golf Team, my gratitude for Coach Watts has never been greater. Looking back, he took a chance on a community college transfer and empowered me with the tools and confidence to help me reach my potential on and off the course. Under his tutelage, I learned how to manage my time effectively, focus on my academics, become a better teammate and grow as a leader. He helped prepare me for a career thereafter.

These days I’m very fortunate to work for NIKE Golf and alongside some of the best professional golfers in the world, including managing the brand relationship with three current and former world #1 ranked players. There are things that make these athletes great at what they do, but trusting in the experience and service of others is what separates them. That’s what Coach Watts provides for the aspiring young golfers he works with, enabling them to reach their full potential. From a coaching perspective, his philosophy aligns with what I’ve seen from the best instructors in the world; treat your athletes as the individuals they are. His understanding of “athlete-fit” is so important when considering the right environment for his athletes to excel in, as this too is a key part in decision making I see in the highest performing teams. His ability to check his ego at the door and put his passion and care behind the best interest of the student-athlete is also what makes him unique.

It’s rare to find a coach that approaches training with such a holistic perspective, looking at both the athlete and the person behind the athlete. From his time in Corvallis to West Point, it gives me great pride knowing what he has done to help young men and young women achieve their dreams of playing competitive golf at the highest levels, all the while teaching them to become a better person.

Now that the long flurry of recruiting activity has concluded, I wanted to take a few moments to express how extremely pleased we have been with the service Coach Brian Watts provided to our family on behalf of our son. I say it that way because Coach Watts took a whole-family approach to the recruiting process, dividing his efforts thoughtfully between time spent with our son directly, speaking with us as parents and also talking with us together as a family. Coach Watts’ communication was very good in every context.

In addition, he did an excellent job understanding our son and his/our particular requirements for an effective placement, judged in the long term. He gave reliable advice, appropriately balancing encouragement with candor. The fact that our son received an excellent placement in Division I golf is a blessing for which we are very thankful. Coach Watts played a critical role in helping our son maximize his chances of realizing that goal. We highly recommend Coach Watts and would be happy to speak with any prospective clients about our experience.

I have the privilege of being recruited, coached, and mentored by Coach Watts. I met him as a bright eyed bushy tailed high school sophomore, and keep in touch with him to this day. During the recruiting process, he was diligent and persistent. During my four years playing for him at West Point, he proved to be a very competitive coach that sought to bring the best out of his players on and off the course. Even though my competitive golf days are over, I apply the things I have learned from him on a daily basis. When I think about Brian, the one word that comes to mind is: care. He really, really cares. It's that simple. He deeply cares about seeing young men and women succeed in life, and golf is his tool! Combine this care with decades of experience, and it's obvious that Brian has so much to offer aspiring collegiate golfers. I am excited about how many young men and women will succeed with the help of Coach Watts Consulting.

“Brian has been a dear family friend for as long as I can remember. He has proven to be an excellent mentor and advisor in pivotal moments of my golf career. When I was unable to join his team at West Point as my first choice in the recruiting process, he helped me tremendously by contacting then head coach at Arizona State University, Melissa Luellen, to recommend that she seriously recruit me. This was one of the most important phone calls to my career as his action helped pave the way to a remarkable four years playing for the Sun Devils. Brian creates not only a comfortable atmosphere and learning environment, but also long lasting friendships with his students. He is very knowledgeable and meticulous about the game and genuinely cares about helping all achieve at the highest level. He gave honest and sincere advice during his time caddying for me that helped steer my career into a new direction with more opportunity for growth. He is a loving family man and very personable. Anyone would be lucky to have Brian on their bag.

Coach Brian Watts has so much knowledge of the game and the recruiting process. Having known him since I was a competitive junior golfer during my recruiting journey, He is always positive, motivating, and will go all lengths to make sure you are set up for success. While playing under him in Division I Collegiate Golf, he was a second father to me. He elevated my game and helped me achieve the goals I envisioned since I started my collegiate career.Anyone who works with [Coach] Brian Watts will realize that he is a motivated, inspiring, and dedicated mentor. He loves the game and is excited to share his knowledge and guidance!

“Brian Watts is a winner, he pushes his student to work harder and smarter than everyone else. When I first met Brian at an AJGA event, where he spoke about recruiting. I though he might be the right person to help me try to find a school to play college golf. As it turned out in early October, I discovered that my father had already reached out to him. I knew who Brian was right away and I was excited to have the opportunity to work with him. We were able to learn quickly that Coach Watts was able to push me in ways that I didn’t even think of. He became more than just a recruiter, he became my mentor.

In days I was able to take my golf game to the next level! We worked on everything from mental game, course management, how to practice, lots of drills and core workouts. We were still able to play golf and put it all to the test, which was a lot of fun. But definitely don’t underestimate his golf game! What I found to be the most beneficial was the expectation of accountability. He is willing to give you the tools to set you on the right path but you are the one to complete the goals. If you want it bad enough, he will want it just as bad for you. However, my experience with Coach Watts became more than golf very quickly, he became a friend who I can always reach out too. If I have any questions at any time and he will be there, willing to listen and answer. He is one of the most knowledgeable men I have ever meet about the sport of golf and he does it humbly which is even more impressive. To anyone who wants a mentor or is looking for placement in a college golf program, I would recommend Coach Watts. Brian and his family are wonderful people and I promise that if you work with him, he will get the most out of you.

“My dream growing up was always to play collegiate golf at an institution that provided not only a one-of-a-kind golf experience, but could provide me the tools necessary to be successful in life.  Coming from a small town where competitive golf opportunities were difficult to come by, Coach Watts recognized my potential and gave me an opportunity to compete for the United States Military Academy at West Point’s Army Black Knights.  This was the perfect fit for me, for in doing my research on colleges, West Point clearly embodied the principles of excellence, duty, selfless service, and commitment to a greater ideal.  Its mission is to develop leaders of character to be prepared to lead and protect the nation in times of need.  When conversing with Coach Watts during the recruiting process, it was apparent his professionalism paralleled the professionalism found at West Point, which solidified my decision to attend and play golf at West Point.I knew playing for Coach Watts was the right decision in the midst of the recruiting process in high school.  In today’s junior golf circuit, it’s almost impossible to play for a good school unless obtain status on the junior golf associations.  My family didn’t have a lot of money to travel around and play in the events that “mattered” in the junior golf world, so I played in local events, Northern California Junior Golf (NCGA) events, and high school competitions.  I was worried I wasn’t going to get much interest from coaches because of my apparent lack in the national golf ranking, but Coach Watts’ commitment to learning about who I was, what my family was like, what my goals were, and what I wanted to do was truly special.  His legitimacy in the coaching world was unquestionable, and his genuine desire to help you accomplish your goals makes Coach Watts special.Playing for Coach Watts was an incredible pleasure, and it pushed me to be a better man, cadet and golfer.  He demanded excellence, a positive attitude, and commitment from everyone on the team, and the culture established under Coach Watts’  tenure at Army led to some of the most successful seasons in the program’s history.  Seeing how his leadership impacted the program firsthand, his success stems from his persistent desire to be positive and live life to the fullest.  Playing for him made me feel as if I could accomplish anything and that every challenge presented me an opportunity to improve.  Adopting that mindset has set me up for boundless success in my future endeavors as a US Army Aviator. As Coach Watts displayed care and commitment to an unknown high school golfer from Reno, he would do the same for your child looking to play at the next level.  Having been involved in the highest levels of collegiate golf, he will present you with the blueprint toward achieving your goals.  His honesty and transparency will provide you with the knowledge necessary to further understand the recruiting process and understand what is required to achieve those goals.  I have the highest level of trust and respect for Coach Watts, and choosing to work with him would be the best thing you could do for your child."

My son and I have formed a great relationship with Coach Watts.  Which makes sense because he’s a relationship person.  Watts knows a ton about golf, college recruiting and, importantly, how to bridge the communication gap between high school athletes and college coaches.  For parents and athletes, he is the Rosetta Stone we all seek to help us interpret the recruiting process and make the most of the opportunity. Coach Watts builds immediate rapport with student athletes and that puts him in a unique position to help athletes like my son interpret the tea leaves of the recruiting process and put their best foot forward.

-Rob Meinhardt Parent

If I was a parent of a junior golfer seeking recruiting guidance for college golf, I would put my complete faith in Coach Watts for that guidance and leadership. He has expansive experience in college golf and golf in general. He would be a tremendous resource for anyone looking to play collegiate golf. He knows the recruiting process from a coach’s point of view from his coaching experience at Oregon State University and the United States Military Academy at West Point. He can and will provide the appropriate and important advice and guidance needed. Plus, he’s one of the nicest and most patient people you will ever meet.”

We heard Brian speak at an event in Reno, NV a couple of  years ago.  The information he provided during that speech was so helpful, we found ourselves wanting to speak to him more.  He was so kind and took a lot of time to answer our questions that day.  We took his information and spent the next two months thinking about hiring him.  We then met him again at another AJGA tourney in Redmond, Oregon. He again wowed us with his speech and we knew then that we would be hiring him that weekend.  After we hired Brian, we instantly felt like he was a part of our family.  He was so supportive of our son, spent time in our home town getting to know our golfer and our family, played golf with our son, honestly evaluated his level of golf, shared tips, did research to help find PGA Professionals to help with certain aspects of his game, and then helped with the entire recruiting process. During that time, Brian was in constant contact with our son and with us. He always answered the phone when we called and he kept us going in the right direction.  He not only supported our son in golf, but also came for a visit to watch him on the basketball court as well, so he could see all sides of our son. The relationship he developed with our son and with us is a friendship that will last far beyond this final year of high school. Our son calls to share scores and updates with Brian sometimes before he calls us.  He feels constant support from Brian and knows he has another adult he can talk to about his future.  Brian is amazing and we have never regretted hiring him to help us figure out our son's collegiate golf experience.

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Brian Watts for 25+ years, as a collegiate golf coach, mentor, friend and industry professional. As a student-athlete at Oregon State University, I had the pleasure of learning from Coach Watts when he was our assistant golf coach. He was a knowledgeable, respectful, skillful teacher and coach, who knew how to motivate us, both on the course and in the classroom. I was continuously impressed by the knowledge he brought to our team and his dedication to staying on top of the latest innovations in golf, both mentally and with the golf swing.

Our player-coach relationship changed into a friendship, as we both transitioned from Oregon State. Brian went on to USMA at West Point and continued to develop student athletes to be leaders. I always knew I could rely on Brian to be a mentor and teacher. His optimistic, engaging and easy to get along with personality is something I have always valued, and he’s helped foster many positive relationships for me within the golf industry and within life. With that said, I am highly confident in my recommendation and believe that Brian can help make people better in their personal and professional lives. Brian is the utmost professional and I would be happy to speak further about my experience with Brian.”

-Charles Kingsbaker Sr. Director, Technology for GOLF Channel/OSU 1997

“I knew Brian’s family for forty  years. I have taught Brian in school and coached Brian in football, basketball and golf. He learned his golf game at his father’s knee. Golf was a family game; played with his mom, his older sister and older brother. The family played the game with joy, competitiveness, and a drive to excel. He and his two siblings played the game throughout the high school and summer tournaments and excelled. Brian took his game to the next level and while not making it “big time”  on The Tour, his experiences led to a career as a golf professional at the Club level and then to college coaching. I will let his coaching resume speak for itself. I want to focus on the man that could lead your son to the fulfillment of your son’s potential. Brian played all sports the same way he played golf; with competitiveness, joy, and drive. He was a joy to coach.

Brian was always the best kind of competitor. A man shows his true colors when he competes. Competing requires dedication, self-control, and a positive self-image. Even a sense of humor. If you allow it, golf can be destructive to how you feel about yourself and detrimental to your best self-interest. Some say it is a “cruel master.” Brian’s approach is to coach the man first, then the competitive game. Modeling, not just coaching, is extremely important. What you see is what you get with Brian.

Honesty is another trait that is front and center in Brian’s character. One can depend that Brian will be upfront and honest, even brutally honest if required. Effective coaching is not cheerleading. Let me repeat that! “EFFECTIVE COACHING IS NOT CHEERLEADING!” No young man wants or needs insincere flattery. He wants his coach to be honest. Encouraging yes, cheerleading no!

A young man needs to be led and directed (coached) by a man that he respects. Moral integrity is at the core of Brian Watts. There is no compromise of principles in programs that Brian has led.

I think being a teacher and coach is a “calling.” It is a career that chooses you. When you have success in coaching it is as fulfilling for the coach as it is for the student. I am thrilled that Brian has found himself in coaching and helping young people realize their full potential. You won’t regret trusting yourself or your son’s career in the capable hands of Brian Watts.”

-Jim Wells Teacher, Coach & Mentor, 1995 National H.S. Coach of the Year, 2010 Oregon Athletic Coaches Assoc. Award for Outstanding Contribution to Oregon High School Athletics… the list is long!

I had the honor and good fortune to work side by side with Coach Brian Watts. He knows the game, he knows the athlete, and more than anything, he knows about relationships. He connects with his athletes and “we care what he knows, we all know he cares.” One of the finest human beings I ever met...loyal, generous, authentic, genuine and deeply caring. I would feel very comfortable having Brian mentor, teach and guide any of my four kids.

I was incredibly fortunate when Coach Watts hired me to be his assistant coach at Oregon State. He’s one of he most liked and respected guys I know. When we brought recruits on campus there was an instant connection with Coach Watts. His approachable and friendly demeanor helped recruits feel comfortable during one of the biggest decisions of their life. His honest and direct details about expectations during the recruiting process and student-athlete life always helped recruits make an informed decision.

Learning the ropes from Coach Watts was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I’ll forever be grateful that our paths crossed at OSU. Watching him lead his team by example helped me develop a solid coaching philosophy that I took with me when I earned my first head coaching job. His student-athletes worked hard for him because they knew he was always in their corner. There was a mutual respect that brought out the best in his student-athletes. His character and integrity are top notch and I know I can always count on him.

-Angie Cates Moore, 2005 and 2008 Western Athletic Coach of the Year

Coach Watts helped develop me into the man I am today. He changed my life, in and out of golf, for the better. Coach Watts served as the Men’s Head Golf Coach at the United State Military Academy at West Point, a team I was fortunate to be a part of from 2012-2016. While at the Academy, Coach implemented a positive culture based on the foundations of hard work and family. His ability to coach every style of golfer, allowed me to improve every year I was at the Academy and led us to a conference championship my senior year. His professionalism, drive and hard work improves everybody around him. I have never met anyone that knows more about the game than Coach Watts. I trust him with everything, on and off the course.
